PEOPLE writer/reporter Aurelie Corinthios got to celebrate her birthday very memorably — at a party for Kylie Jenner’s Galore cover. This is her story. Sometimes, life works in magical and mysterious ways. For example, on the night of your birthday, you might get invited to attend an event celebrating Kylie Jenner, with all of her sisters on the guest list, and you can pretend that it’s your own personal party and they’re all attending to celebrate you.
If you’re me, you immediately drop whatever peasant-like birthday plans you had to get dinner and drinks with your non-famous friends — as you can see, I now scoff in the face of hanging out with anyone other than A-list-celebs — because a Kardashian-studded party at a nightclub in New York obviously takes precedent over, well, anything really.

I suppose before I go any further I will have to come clean and admit it: I like Kylie Jenner. There. I said it. Cue the barrage of angry comments that will surely land on this post, I have mentally prepared myself for them. I’ll head you off at the pass: Trash! Garbage! She looks 40 years old! — and those are some of the kinder comments left by outraged — nay, incensed — readers on any Kylie Jenner-related post.
But the thing is, while certainly not everyone approves of the selfie-taking, lip-injecting, 25-year-old-rapper-dating reality star, it appears that haters and crazed fans alike are fascinated by the youngest member of the Kardashian family. After all, she has a combined 47.2 million followers on Instagram and Twitter and is the number one most viewed person on Snapchat (not to mention the winner of “most popular app” since they launched Monday).
I won’t delve too deep into defending my appreciation for Kylie (because let’s face it, the haters have no mercy), but what can I say? I’m just a sucker for the glamorous Instagrams and crazy Snapchats, captivated by the contouring, entranced by the perfectly plump lips.
But, I digress. Back to the party, and first, we must paint a picture. The location is Up & Down, a popular downtown nightclub often frequented by the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber, and by 10 p.m. the crowd outside the club can only be described as what one would call “a scene.”
We’re talking a serious throng of very trendy, very young people. The kind of “trendy” that makes for the best people-watching, where every outfit is crazier than the next and every head is perfectly coiffed — or should I say, meticulously and painstakingly uncoiffed.
Once inside, the scene was a little more subdued than the madness that was the street outside, because now that they were “in,” the guests could act very chill and cool. You know, like they do this every Monday night, just munching on French fries and cotton candy between drinks while anxiously checking the door for the arrival of American reality television royalty.

I quickly staked out my spot by the large empty table towards the middle of the club, where the ladies were sure to be seated on they arrived. And then we waited … and waited, and waited. There’s only so much time one can stand and swill around an empty drink, so we eventually gave in and made our way towards the bar for round two.
Well, lo and behold, the timing worked out perfectly. Before I knew what was even happening, I was suddenly being shoved aside by security guards. I looked up and there she was, in all her shimmering glamour, so primped and prepped and perfectly put together that she looked almost alien-like.

Right by her side was Tyga, the aforementioned 25-year-old rapper who is dating (and “buying cars for“) the newly-minted 18-year-old. The two certainly looked like something of an odd couple as they made their entrance, with Kylie decked out in a Balmain mini-dress with sheer cut-outs and sleeves and Tyga sporting a bizarre, baggy purple velour hoodie that he kept pulled up over his head all night, giving off serious Harry Potter Dementor vibes.

Within seconds, the fleeting moment of our physical proximity was over and she was steered into the roped-off VIP table area with her beau.
From then on, I was forced to observe her from afar, completely at the mercy of the horde of fans that shuttled me around as they desperately tried to snap pictures and videos of “King Kylie” herself.
She was soon joined by all of her other famous sisters — except perhaps the most famous of them all, Kim Kardashian West. Was her absence strategic? Would the club have imploded if the nation’s most famous sisters were all there, all taking selfies and shaking their famous backsides at the same time all at once?
Watching Kylie interact with Kourtney, Khloé and Kendall was more than enough entertainment for one night. The sisters danced, took videos of each other, and regularly threw back their heads with infectious laughter as the Keeping Up with the Kardashians cameras captured it all for the world to see on TV in just a few months.
On a side note, Kylie’s leggy 19-year-old supermodel sister Kendall knew all the words to all the rap songs, which I found particularly delightful.
The night went on like this for some time, and finally, after a couple of hours, Tyga got up on the small stage next to their table and performed a few of his songs, including “Ice Cream Man” — a song all about “marshmallow booties” which might just be an ode to his girlfriend and the rest of her famous family. (Maybe less delightful.)
Shortly afterwards, the sisters were once again surrounded by an entourage of security as they prepared to make their exit, parting the crowd of us plebeians on the dance floor yet again.
“You look great, Khloé!” my friend told youngest Kardashian sister — who recently dropped 35 lbs. and really does look pretty amazing — as she brushed past us.
She looked up, smiled brightly at us — and poof! They were gone. You could almost feel the mood in the room dull after all the glitz had left the building and we were reminded that the evening’s glitter was only temporary (oh yeah, and that it was Kylie’s party, not mine). And with that, we returned to our daily lives, feeling somewhat defeated but smiling at the same time because Khloé Kardashian had acknowledged our presence. I feel like I’m just one more Jenner birthday bash away from modeling leotards in next year’s Yeezy show.
